Community (or “herd” ) Immunity is the term used to describe the protection the community has against certain diseases when a high percentage of the population is immunized. The higher the numbers of protected individuals, the less likely a disease will spread from child to child and cause an epidemic.
Founded in 1994, the mission of the Immunization Action Coalition of Washington (IACW) is to increase public awareness about the importance of immunizations and to achieve and maintain effective coverage levels of recommended immunizations for infants, children, adolescents, and adults in Washington State.
The IACW has over 200 organizational members that represent public and private communities around the state.
