Immunization Info for Parents of Pre-teens and Teens

Remember to immunize your pre-teen and teen.

  • Before
your child starts middle or high school, schedule a checkup or sports
physical and discuss the recommended immunizations with his or her
    healthcare provider.
  • Ask about vaccines made just for the
needs of pre-teens and teens. If your child has missed any
immunizations it’s not too late to catch up.
  • If your child is up-to-date on immunizations, he or she will have a complete record for college, travel, or employment.

Protect your daughter before she’s exposed.

  • Human
Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection.
A vaccine can protect girls from the common types of HPV that cause
genital warts and most cervical cancers.
  • The vaccine only
works if it is given before a girl is exposed to the virus through
sexual activity. Ask her doctor or nurse about getting the HPV vaccine.

Ask! It’s OK to have questions.

  • Ask your doctor or nurse about recommended immunizations and a vaccination plan for your child.
  • Talk with your doctor, nurse, or clinic about your immunization questions.
