Back-to-school checklist? Don't forget immunizations!

Back-to-school shopping for many families includes backpacks, school supplies and clothing. Does your child need immunizations for school too?

If your child is up-to-date on immunizations, he or she will meet the requirements to attend child care, preschool, and school. Use the next several weeks to ensure your kids have the immunizations they need. Check with your health care provider or clinic to see if your child is up-to-date.

Teen immunization rates improve in Washington

According the National Immunization Survey, teen immunization rates are up across the board with Washington at or above the national average for newer immunizations that protect against human papillomavirus (HPV), whooping cough (pertussis), and meningococcal disease. The survey included adolescents 13 to 17 years old.

AAP launches Protect Tomorrow campaign

Protect Tomorrow is a national education awareness campaign that reminds parents about the importance of childhood immunizations. The campaign encourages parents to talk with their pediatricians about the benefits of vaccines, the importance of the recommended immunization schedule and how to best protect their children.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month!

Immunizations protect you, your family, and your community

  • Immunizations save lives and prevent common but serious illnesses, diseases that are rare but still exist, and diseases common in other parts of the world.
  • Children who are not immunized or who are not fully immunized are at risk for serious preventable diseases.
  • Adults need immunizations too. Make sure your immunizations are up-to-date, especially if you take care of children or the elderly.
